The deadline is near to make donations to The Giving Fund, which seeks to improve the lives of some of the neediest members of our community.

Since Thanksgiving, The Giving Fund has told the stories of 207 families and individuals in our area who are struggling to meet their most basic needs.

Now in its 38th year, The Giving Fund offers readers the opportunity to make donations and help out others in their community. Donations made to The Giving Fund directly benefit two local nonprofits, Greenwich-based Family Centers and Darien-based Person to Person.

“This is an opportunity for people who want to make a direct impact and help people in the community get back on their feet,” said William Brucker, chief advancement officer at Family Centers.

The Giving Fund has received about $80,000 in donations so far during this fundraising drive, Brucker said. But more donations are needed to support all of the 207 families who are participating, he said.

The Giving Fund will accept donations through the end of the month.
