The Academy Awards are coming up on March 27. But some of the nominees might be unfamiliar. Thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, many movie fans didn’t feel comfortable getting out to theaters to watch some of the year’s best films during their original runs.
If watching the nominees on the big screen is your preference, check your local listings — some of them are, or soon will be, showing in theaters. The AMC Theatres chain offers its annual Best Picture Showcase, where viewers can see seven of the 10 best picture nominees, from March 18 through March 27. (Some films have exclusive deals with Apple or Netflix, so they can’t be part of the showcase.)
But say you want to catch up before the Oscars without leaving home. Stock up on popcorn and other snacks, because here’s a look at how to watch the nominees in the best picture, director and lead actor and actress categories. We’ve sorted the films by streaming video service.
Note that we’ve only included films that are free if you subscribe to the service in question. If you’re willing to pay up, you also can rent or buy many of the nominees at various online outlets.
