It was two years ago in early March and mostly everyone was still commuting to their offices.
Then the COVID-19 pandemic hit and everyone’s world was about to change. Offices closed, people were told to stay home, and thus began a trend that looks like it is here to stay in Connecticut.
Fast forward to the present, pandemic infections have slowed down considerably, mask mandates have been lifted, and life seems to be getting back to normal, but now it’s the new normal.
During the past two years, many companies have discovered that their employees can work effectively from home and do not need to be in the office every day.
Call it a COVID-19 revolution, or whatever you want to call it, but whatever you thought about working from an office prior to the pandemic has totally changed.
Once people where forced to work from home they realized they didn’t have to commute everyday, they could then spend more time with their families, and even had more options of where they could live without the concern of the proximity to their place of employment.
Now this doesn’t mean that offices are going away either. Many companies continue to lease out their office space, in fact the number of companies who now lease office space in Connecticut actually increased over the last 12 months.
Companies are opening up their offices a few days a week for employees who want the old school feel of actually reporting to work. In fact, according to Global Workplace Analytics, between 25-30% of the workforce in Connecticut is still working from home several days a week, and that number could rise to 50% of the workforce by the year 2030.
So even though the statistics lean heavily towards working from home over going into the office, what’s happening now, and going forward post pandemic, offices buildings are not going away, and will continue to be a part of the Connecticut landscape.
