The 46th annual Mr. Olympia bodybuilding competition takes place in Orlando, Florida this weekend.
Since 1965, the Mr. Olympia competition has given bodybuilders an additional chance to compete and earn money aside from the Mr. Universe event. Bodybuilders from around the world make their way to the United States each year to compete in the 11 events held over the weekend. The most popular events are Mr. Olympia and Ms. Olympia.
But, how much prize money do the winners of each event take home? Sporting News breaks down the total purse for the competition, along with outlining how much money each competitor takes home.

Mr. Olympia purse 2021
The total purse for the combined 11 events at Mr. Olympia is $1.6 million in 2021, which is the most in the competition’s history. This is an increase from the 2020 purse of $1.4 million. This was the first increase since the 2015 competition.
How much money does the winner get?
The winner of the Mr. Olympia event is the only first place winner to earn six figures. The top three contestants took home six figured last year.
In 2020, the winner of Mr. Olympia took home $400,000, second place took $150,000 and third place took $100,000. Since this year has a total increase of $200,000, the payout distribution is expected to go 50/50 for men’s and women’s events. Even though the Ms. Olympia winner last year only took home $50,000, there are more women’s events that give out money to the winners.
